Lift passes
Buy your lift pass early. If you get your pass early on you get a chunky discount off the regular price. It’s still a great deal if you miss the discounts but it’s a nice saving if you can get it!
To buy your lift pass go to www.skifernie.com and follow the links, they will let you pay in instalments.
Insurance
Please make sure that you have adequate insurance for your trip as in the unlikely event of an accident you need to be covered. We recommend checking out a few places to see what is the best deal for you, start off by having a look at
www.insureandgo.com www.boardsure.com www.snowboardclub.co.uk
Jobs
There are jobs advertised at Fernie Alpine Resort each year but you will need to be on the ball to bag one,
www.skifernie.com
If you get a job at the ski hill they will sponsor you which will mean your visa is organised by them, you could also try and organise yourself a visa which means you will be able to get a job anywhere you can. Getting hold of a visa is easiest through bunac, but again, you will have to be in early to get hold of one.
www.bunac.org/uk/workcanada Costs On the whole, Canada is cheaper than the UK for most stuff such as food, petrol and snowboarding kit. Alcohol is about the same as the UK, but hey, you are going to Canada to spend time in the great outdoors so that isn’t going to matter!
Remember that tax is added onto products once you get them to the checkout at a rate of 14.5% so don’t underestimate what you will be paying at the till.
We estimate that you could get by on $100 per week – cooking most meals in and having the odd takeaway.
