Whilst Fernie is not exactly a metropolis with countless clubs, bars and restaurants to choose from it does have a great mixture of quality places to spend your evening. If your looking for food you can choose from the pub food of The Fernie Hotel and The Pub Bar and Grill, both with great burger and beer deals or a more restaurant style meal at Corner Pocket or Rip n Richards. Several of the eateries compete to serve the best chicken on Wing Night, a real Fernie experience which often encourages 'all you can eat' type challenges. Special mention must also go to the Central's Shrimp Fest, a weekly event where you can eat two pounds of shrimp for just over £5! My personal favourite in Fernie is Yamagoya Sushi, a Japanese restaurant where you can spend a long evening sharing sushi and deep fried tempura. Fernie also offers Indian food at The Curry Bowl, various pizza restaurants and take aways and the upmarket Brick House with rib eye steaks and Caesar salads. As with most towns in the UK a night out in Fernie is whatever you want to make it. You could choose to play the pub quiz at The Fernie, have a few drinks and a game of pool at The Central or have a big night at the Royal, which often hosts well known Canadian DJ's. Most bars have deals on jugs of beer from the locally brewed Kokanee to Budweiser and Pale Ale. Several places put on live music throughout the week, anything from metal to acoustic to the one man band I saw in The Central one night. Drum and Bass night happen every Wednesday at The Royal and during my season this was also the venue for Gangster Night, an evening of competitions between different areas of Fernie which involved dressing in your gangs colours (green for the Annex) and taking part in dance offs and drinking wars. Fernie also offers a two screen cinema with $4 nights, showing new blockbusters for a bargain price. Although it's a small town Fernie has plenty to keep you entertained in terms of nightlife and with all the visitors it gets every season theres always a party going on somewhere. |
